SIPs home in Craobh Haven, West Coast of Scotland
Project overview
Located in the purpose-built village and sailing port of
Craobh Haven, on the west coast of Argyll and Bute, this
contemporary take on the traditional Scottish longhouse
enjoys stunning views across the Craobh Marina.
Built using SIPs to maximise thermal efficiency, the house
has a very low energy demand despite its location on the
exposed Scottish coast.
Challenges
The home’s exposed location, facing out onto Loch Shuna, meant that the chosen
construction method needed to be made wind and watertight extremely quickly. The
client specified a preference for SIPs from the start, and this proved the ideal choice as
off-site manufacture allowed for rapid on-site construction and a highly thermally
efficient shell in the finished home.
Services Delivered
The architect for this house was Heb Homes and JML SIPs designed and supplied the custom SIPs kit for this project, which was then
erected by the main contractor. This was the main contractor’s first SIPs kit experience
and they were impressed by the ease and speed of erection and have gone on to use
JML’s SIPs system again. They were supported by JML SIPs throughout the process to
ensure the build was smoothly run and problem-free.
Client testimonial:
‘The kit was superb and I would highly recommend JML SIPs and have done to many people who
have been to view my property.'
